Extreme Weather Green Dot Days

What is green dot day?

On days when there is heavy rain, cold temperatures and/or wind chill is –23ºC a green dot is placed on four entrance doors: Front door, doors C, D and door E (by bike rack). These doors are marked on the outside of the doors. Students are invited to come into the school through one of these doors.

On days of extreme weather or green dot days, STUDENTS SHOULD NOT ARRIVE AT SCHOOL PRIOR TO 8:20 a.m.

PLEASE remember your children should come to school with hats, mitts, scarves, snow pants, warm coat and boots at all times.

The weather could improve throughout the day and the children will go out for recess.

Arrival & Dismissal Expectations

Successful operation of a school requires the cooperation and understanding of all concerned. We are grateful for the support of our parents.

The expectation at Lorelei is that all students remain outside with their backpacks and belongings until the assembly bell rings at 8:30 a.m. and enter the school at their assigned doors. Parents who accompany their children to school are also asked to respect this expectation.

Supervision begins outside at 8:20 a.m. Students should not be arriving before supervision begins.

Ask your child what door they go out for recess. The door they go out for recess is the door they arrive to and dismiss from.

Late Arrivals

Students NEED to be on time for school.

The bell rings at 8:30 a.m.

  • Students have 5 minutes to enter the school, remove outdoor clothing and footwear, be in their desk ready for announcements.
  • Students who are late but arrive prior to 8:30 a.m. need to enter through their assigned doors.  Parents who drop off students who are late should escort them to their entrance. It is important that you provide a safe drop-off and pick up procedure that your child(ren) understand(s).
  • AFTER 8:30 a.m., late arriving students are to come to the office, ring the buzzer, enter the school, come to the office for a welcome slip, and head directly to class. Parents are not to go beyond the office.
  • Students who leave the school at lunchtime should not return to the school until after 12:00 p.m.

STUDENTS SHOULD NOT ARRIVE AT SCHOOL PRIOR TO 8:20 A.M. SUPERVISORS ARE ON DUTY BEGINNING THEN. IN THE AFTERNOON, STUDENTS SHOULD NOT ARRIVE AT SCHOOL BEFORE 12:00 P.M.

Child Check

Contact the school at 780-456-4488, for each day your child is absent from school or will be late. Please leave a message on the answering machine if you are calling after or prior to school hours. You can also enter your child's absence on SchoolZone.

In the interest of safety for your child(ren), we will be calling you at home if your child has not arrived at school (unless you have phoned or entered it on SchoolZone). If we cannot reach you there, then we will try you at your alternative number. We will leave a message on your answering machine.

If your child has a pre-arranged appointment please let the school office know.

Security Door Cameras

Lorelei School has a main entrance door access control camera.

The camera is installed above the main entrance door and will not have the ability to record or videotape. When visitors come to the front doors of a school, they look up at the camera, identify themselves and then hit a buzzer to be let in the building. An adult manning the camera from the office can hit a buzzer to let visitors inside. It is similar to being let in to an apartment building, but a video camera is used to help identify visitors.

Student safety is a top priority for the District.
